These are the liturgies of the 1947 Book of Worship of the Evangelical and Reformed Church. It entered the public domain in 1976. This book was derived from the two Books of Worship of its predecessor denominations:
The Evangelical Book of Worship (1916), ultimately derived from the Lutheran Agenda
The Reformed Book of Worship (1926), ultimately derived from the Palatinate Church Order.
The E&R Synod considers this Book of Worship, the Book of Common Prayer, and the Lutheran Service Book accepted liturgical norms.
The “Amen” printed in italics shall be said or sung by the Congregation. Where the “Amen” is not italicized it shall be said or sung by the Minister and Congregation.
The Congregation shall rise for prayer; or kneel, especially in penitential acts.
In the Creeds and in musical settings, “Holy Ghost" is used; elsewhere, "Holy Spirit."
In the Apostles' Creed, "Hades" may be used instead of "Hell," & "One Holy Universal Christian Church" may be used instead of "Catholic Church."
